Fire damaged ferry off Brindisi
In the evening of Nov 29, 2014, a fire broke out 25 miles off the Italian coast in the engine room of the "Ierapetra L", and the ship immediately returned to Brindisi.
the Ferry had just left the port where he had been idle for about a month, bound for maintenance in Igoumenitsa.
On board was only a crew of 23. The port authorities of Brindisi, Otranto and Gallipoli sent three patrol boats. Also a tug and the merchant ships "Montenero" and "Eurocargo Valencia" responded. At 10:25 p.m. the fire was extinguished with the use of fire protection Systems, and a patrol boat escorted the ferry back to port on Nov 30 at dawn. The hull was blackened by the heat and fire which seemed to have caused significant damage.
