Explosion kills two on eastern Black Sea coast in Georgia.
Law enforcers are investigating the explosion that took place in Kulevi oil terminal, the oil port on the eastern Black Sea coast in Georgia. Investigators are working on several versions.
According to the preliminary reports, during the under water works,
after putting into motion a welder, likely gas accumulated into the sank vessel, or oil products exploded that caused the accident.
Although representatives of Socar Georgia Petroleum Ltd, the affiliate of State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic owing and operating the Kulevi oil terminal, rule out the version of explosion of oil products. They say, the reservoirs on the vessel that sank off Georgia`s coast in 2008, were emptied.
The incident took place at the Kulevi terminal on Thursday. Two divers were killed when working on pulling out the Ukrainian vessel. Skadolsky vessel was carrying out coast clearing works, when it sank off Kulevi oil terminal, the oil port on the eastern Black Sea coast in Georgia.
The divers, who were employees of Kuzeyin Marine Turkish Company. Erkan Karsky and Murad Kara Oglu were citizens of Turkey.
This has been the second similar incident in Kulevi for recent months. In December 2010, a 25-year old diver was badly injured when working underwater.
