ABB powered LNG ice-going carrier launched
Zurich, Switzerland, 25 January 2016 - The first of a series of Azipod powered LNG ice-going carriers, set to transport its cargo from Siberia to Europe and Asia, has been launched. Constructed by Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) in South Korea, it is the most powerful LNG carrier in the world.
The vessel will be prepared for commissioning startup of the ABB equipment from beginning of March.
ABB’s scope of supply includes turbochargers, generators, switchboards, transformers, electric drives, propulsion control and the Azipod propulsion units that will power the vessels through the arctic conditions.
